After almost four decades of being told that my reality isn’t reality and that I’m just crazy, I don’t take it well when even nice people who I love say shit like I’m sure that she didn’t mean it like that when she said that to you.

The problem is that there is no way for that person to know that their statement is true, and saying that is a denial of my reality. For most people, it probably doesn’t bother them that much when people do this, or at least that’s what I’m assuming based on listening to and watching other people interact.

These people are usually nice people and they just want to give me a different perspective, but to me it screams that my experience isn’t reality and that I misunderstood. It’s incredibly patronizing and I get to feeling like people think that I’m too stupid to know.

The gaslighting scheme used on me was elaborate, and involved many different stories. Some of them were stories that the birth-giver and the stepfather told me, such as “Satanic Panic.”
