I’d like to think the name of my newsletter, Alters and Altars, is clever. So, why is it called Alters and Altars? Well, I’m glad you (didn’t) ask(ed). I’m going to tell you anyway, and what’s more is I will tell you for free!

I chose the name Alters and Altars because it really gets to the heart of my writing. It really drives me crazy when I see people use alter or altar in the wrong context.

Here is the difference:

Alter: (noun) an alternate personality caused by dissociation due to severe trauma.

Altar: (noun) a flat physical space for displaying items for use in worship of God.

Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID): a trauma response in which the person dissociates and splits into multiple personalities to survive.

Sign up for Alters and Altars to stay in the loop about the progress of my essay collection and for exclusive content. It’s all FREE.

I’m staying here on Medium of course, but it’s also time to launch a newsletter to develop my own mailing list. It would be super cool if you’d take a minute to sign up. You will have to click on the “subscribe” tab in the top left corner because silly me forgot to add a button for it. I will work on better newsletter skills going forward.

Like many others, I’m a writer, a creative, not a marketer, and so I’ve had a hard time setting things up, but I’m stubborn. I decided to use Mail Chimp as it has a good reputation as well as a very good free plan.
