Conservatives are Preying on Our Small Queers
Their nonsense harms the most vulnerable among us
Yesterday, the Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves signed a bill making gender-affirming healthcare for minors illegal, effective immediately. He did not consult any medical professionals. In fact, he ignored them.
Reeves claims the law is about protecting trans kids from themselves and from their parents, yet the conservatives are the ones who spent the last two years throwing a fit about COVID vaccines and the people’s right to choose medical care for themselves and their children.
This is about political brownie points, money, and cruelty towards those he hates — kids who dare to be different and refuse to let right-wing nuts dictate their lives.
The other day a woman told me she agreed with the bill because science has proven that a person’s brain doesn’t finish developing until age twenty-five, and so people shouldn’t “be allowed to decide they are a different gender” before they reach the age of twenty-five, despite the (new) law in Mississippi stating they can have gender-affirming care at age 18.
Explaining that trans youth are quite aware of their own gender was a futile…
