I do pray for people, but I help where I can also. I’m a disabled single mother so I can’t volunteer usually, I do not donate to charities, I donate to individuals instead. I am not fond of charities and I’ve had a lot of experience as the person they supposedly helped.

Anyway, that’s not the point. I pray for the homeless. One day, I was buying breakfast and I came out of the drive thru and there was a homeless man wrapped in a blanket trying to keep warm. I rolled down my window and handed him the bag, told him I just bought it and he saw me come out and the food is warm.

He said thank-you and had it half eaten before I even rolled my window back up. I kept praying for him and I wasn’t able to buy him breakfast again because I didn’t have the money. But I had been able to show him care that one day.

I did not say anything about God, I’m sure he’s been evangelized enough. I gave him a burger with eggs and bacon and some warm potato wedges that helped fill his stomach.

Less than a month later, I happened upon a bad, fatal, wreck. It was the homeless man and he had been killed by a truck running into his bicycle. When I was passing by, it had just happened.

I said a blessing, made the sign of the cross, and asked Jesus to bring him into his presence. The man’s soul sighed and he released his spirit. I fed him only once in life, but I prayed for him and was for some reason there in death.

He passed knowing someone cared. It was all I could do. But I prayed for him also. And I was only able to feed him one day.
