I do that with mine too. Their dad took them to a St. Patrick’s Day parade last month and he collected a bunch of the cabbages and carrots and the kids laughed at him and told him he didn’t need them. I asked them not to laugh at their dad hoarding free food he will never eat because he grew up hungry and food insecurity is a thing and that sometimes people who grew up hungry will do things like collect carrots and cabbages off the ground, and take them home knowing they will never use them because in their mind it’s free food and the “might” need it. I wish parents explained things to their kids more.
