I Don’t Like “Good Christian People”
I will never be perfect enough for them
This weekend, some “good Christian person,” upset by my response on the viral photo of a Starbucks barista in Arkansas praying with a customer, sent me a nasty message. The conversation took place on the Facebook page of a local news station who had posted the picture and a very short story about it.
My position on the picture was that a barista is being paid to work, not pray with the customers, and that she should not be offering prayer at her workplace while on the clock.
Not only was she holding up the line, but she was also holding up other employees from doing their jobs. Most places have a timed drive thru which means that all the employees working on that shift can get into trouble if the line takes too long.
The fact that someone was there to take a picture makes me think she was showboating anyway, but even if she wasn’t, that’s not the time and place. I’m a Christian, and I don’t want to be held hostage in a drive thru line while an employee prays for me.
Perhaps the person she prayed with didn’t want the prayers, but felt pressured into letting her pray because the situation was awkward. I’m not sure that Starbucks would want to be known for this kind of thing, but I could be wrong.
