I grew up in this kind of environment which is why I’m a little more sensitive about it I think. Growing up in this way caused me a world of harm.
It’s definitely not black and white from a Biblical perspective, which is what most people tend to cite as reasons for their pro life stance.
I will say that I don’t like abortion, and I don’t know anyone who does. I see it as something that is unfortunately sometimes necessary.
Due to other life experiences I’m against most adoptions, which pro life people want to utilize. Pregnant women aren’t incubators for women who can’t have children. A child is not a product to be trafficked to a fundamentalist family.
I’m not tied into one particular Bible version but I despise the KJV and NKJV. The ESV I’d prefer not to use but would if I felt I should. I use mostly the NRSV (which is what the Episcopal Church uses in public), and the RSV2CE. That’s my favorite so far but those are the two I generally use. I do have two nice NIV study Bibles and will use that version but really I have them mostly for the study notes.
I guess what my main point would be is that a blanket ban on abortion destroys more lives than it pretends to save.
