I have pissed off a hair stylist more than once by insisting that she listen to my child about how they want their hair. The stylist would look at me and ask how I want it cut and I would say “it’s her hair, ask her.” She would say “but you’re the parent, how do you want it cut?” I told her “I want it cut the way she wants it cut.” Bodily autonomy is a thing, and that includes hair.
