I have similar things happen as an Aussie who lives in the USA. They really make zero effort to try to understand because the USA is better, naturally, and obviously I’m not from around here. It’s an exhausting attitude to constantly come up against.

I went back and forth with someone like this over my name one day and in the end I said “you know what? Just write down whatever you want to write down, tell me what it is, and I’ll come get the food when you call that out.”
