I remember that essay. I wish we could all be nicer to each other. Honestly I’m struggling not to “okay boomer” the hell out of a particular one right now. She’s one of the oldest boomers who has insulted me (not for the first time) by insinuating that because I’m under 40 I have very little real life experience.

That not only deeply hurts, it makes me angry and it’s laughable. She can trade life experiences if she’d like to. This is actually a person I like and respect which is why I’m struggling so hard and have not just said “okay boomer.” I’ve cried instead.

The thing is, she’s a liberal, she shattered glass ceilings, but she still says I have very little life experience because of my age without stopping to think about the fact that when it comes to experience, age often means very little.

Hurt feelings aside, I have written one or two posts about generational disagreements, and yet my best friend and a few other friends are boomers. When it comes to friends I care about who is a decent person.

Every generation has its faults and every generation has its excellence. We need to be able to come together and enjoy living life together with dignity and respect, and perhaps even without assuming things about people based on their age.
