I think this definition is not “wrong” but it’s certainly not useful. As an addict that wants to please God this doesn’t help even if it’s technically correct.

Addiction is a disease which causes those of us who are addicts to commit sins. So thinking using the clinical definition, Jesus is the higher power I call on to save me from addiction, not change addictions.

I think this person probably meant well but it’s not helpful. Sometimes the language we use to talk about things matters. I have several friends who love Jesus who are addicts who wouldn’t understand this much less find it useful.
