I’m from a country that doesn’t feel the need to have small children recite words they don’t know the meaning of every day in an effort to show patriotism. This is from what I can tell, a United States specific thing. I honestly don’t understand why this is even a thing.

That said, from my point of view as a different kind of Christian, I opted my kids out at school, unless it was something they truly felt they should do and it was not.

Right now there isn’t Liberty and Justice for all. The people in power don’t want liberty and Justice for all. They are stripping rights every time we turn around.

So it’s not just a thing that goes against my beliefs, it’s also just weird and I don’t understand it. I understand that people join the military for all kinds of reasons, most of them legitimate, and I respect that, but as a pacifist I can’t really go along with the freedom fighter aspect either.

But this was probably the best article for why you would do this and it is a good article despite my strong disagreement. :)
