It’s hard to learn the basic stuff with an impatient woman who spanks you for “refusing” to learn. I’d freeze up trying to memorize the times tables because I knew if I didn’t spout off a certain number of them by memory in the next however long she gave me say ten minutes, I’d be hit. So I’m sure there’s trauma responses there too.
