I've never understood the teacher gift trend. I don't give the postman a gift, or my doctor a gift. Teachers are underpaid and I have done my best before I started to homeschool to provide extra supplies to help, but I've never given a teacher gift and never intended to and if I had intended to, the notice the school administration (which I know teachers don't control) that offered guidelines and what was allowed and what wasn't and all would have soured me.

Perhaps the school district should pay teachers what they are worth instead of begging for gifts from the students. As usual, the teachers are stuck in between. I don't even have the funds to provide my own children the gifts I'd like to, I certainly won't spend it on someone who is paid to do the job they do even though it isn't enough.

I've had other ways to express appreciation for good teachers, though. I have four children and I think that there has only been two or three truly bad teachers, and I'm talking about ones that bullied my daughter for being trans. I agree most teachers are fine and doing their best, and some are excellent. I still don't understand the teacher gift trend, though. I had not heard of it before I moved the USA.
