I told my children when they were younger that they had to go to church simply because I was going and that they were too young to stay at home alone, and told them that they didn't have to participate if they did not want to. I also promised I'd not make them go when they got old enough to stay home alone. One comes with me occasionally because she wants to. I told her if she wants to go she needs to let me know because I'm not going to make it seem like I'm asking.
