ABOUT ME
We Are One But We Are Many
A little bit of information about who I am and who we are
This article replaces my “about me” and I just sent it out to my Substack readers.
My Christian name is MaryClare. It’s not the name on my government documents but it is the name I was baptized with, and to me that’s what counts. There is a lot of me because we are me. I have Dissociative Identity Disorder. It used to be called Multiple Personality Disorder but as they tend to do every so often, they changed the name of the diagnosis.
The good news is that if you don’t like me, you might like the me you meet tomorrow, or three hours from now, because like I said, we are me. My pronouns are she/her and our pronouns are we/us. In clinical settings they call us a “system,” but we don’t like that term, it’s so technical and impersonal, and so we use the word “community.”
It’s hard to describe Dissociative Identity Disorder in just a paragraph, but I’m going to try because it comes out a lot in my writing. There is one of me, but there are all different people inside of me with their own lives, beliefs, and preferences. They cover all ages, from newborn to adult, and can be any gender, or even fictional characters.
